This is a composite image of one of the Oregon State University Materials Institute (OSUMI) Synthesis labs in the morning.
My office. High ceilings and tall windows. I like it.
The OSUMI synthesis lab argon atmosphere glovebox . This photograph was taken early in the morning when the high pressure sodium light outside the window was still casting its eery glow inside. The long exposure makes the glovebox seem like its really bright.

A pellet of YBa2Cu3O7-x (YBCO) in the superconducting state (@ ~77 K) levitating a small Samarium-Cobalt magnet. To achieve a temperature of ~77 K the pellet is immersed in liquid nitrogen. The YBCO pellet was made by a Corvallis High School student which I mentored on topics in solid state chemistry as part of the Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) Saturday Academy program during summer 2009.
